THE TRUTH ABOUT FRYING

Frying is almost a taboo if you are even think of losing a few inches, let alone if you are a heart patient. It dreaded due to the oil content or the calories it brings with it. If you are of the same opinion as most of your healthoholic friends, then this is a must read for you;

OIL IS GOOD;

Oil is of utmost importance especially since it helps in the absorption of vitamin A, D, E and K. Oil also reduces the GI of the food that you eat, i.e, it gradually releases sugar into the blood steam thus preventing weight gain due to sugar rush. Oil acts as a lubricant to keep the skin supple and hair glossy.

QUALITY MATTERS

The type of food fried and the oil used is what matters the most. If you fry frozen French fries v/s making some homemade bhajiya – you need to take a health check. Use oils that are not smoking, or those that are not reused, thus eliminating the addition of transfat to your food. Heavily processed foods like frozen-ready-to-fry packets are laden with additives that cause more harm than good.

FRY THE RIGHT FOOD

Frying a dal vada, v/s frying bread rolls or cheese pakoda is definitely the better choice. Foods like pulses, potatoes, raw banana, chicken, paneer consume less oil while frying than bread or cornflour based food. Avoid frying fish, as the fish oils tend lose their health quotient in the bargain.

1 serving of store bought French fries has 350kcal

1 serving of homemade moong pakoda has 300kcal

Chose the latter, as it is fresh, free of additives, is high protein and most importantly will keep you full for 3hours.
